In Remembrance by Millard Irwin

Created by Millard 7 years ago

If words can form flowers and poems bouquets
My verse is a remembrance in gratitude for Betty’s ways
In the early 60s when her son David and I became friends
We ventured together for a time seemingly without ends
I felt like family whenever a guest in their loving home
Betty and Irv were welcoming; on their estate I could roam
Her sons Doug and Duff were like young brothers to me
Duff called me recently remembering my care and esprit

When my father almost died from a stroke in ‘63
We had no funds and I quit college; nothing is free
Betty and Irv through David stepped forward for me
To find work in their friend’s factory first as a interviewee
Then hired to work assembly lines for pay guarantee
This solved a serious problem for my family and for me
I am forever grateful for their kindness that will always be
Betty’s ways and Irv’s management they applied to me

Before I leave this praise of kindness and gratitude
Some further words show Betty and Irv’s giving attitude
In making my way from Europe, across the states was the key
Betty’s support with Irv’s plan helped this second time for me
In Detroit from the Chrysler plant I was to drive back a demo car
It was a new ‘65 Fury--it was fast, and important in my memoir
Arriving back home in enough time to share my odyssey
With my father before his final tears and heart pathology
