Dear David, Doug and Duff, What heartfelt, loving memories we have of our time living with your mom at the end of Prospect Road. It was 1976, and we were moving into our first home as a committed couple, and what glorious good fortune it was to have Betty Normandin as a friend, landlord, mentor at that tender and definitive time in our lives. I, Barbara, first met Betty at Santa Clara University. We were in graduate school in the field of special education. Betty was curious, fun-loving, and so inviting. I thought how wonderful that a woman in her mid-fifties was adventurous enough to delve into a new career ~ with her whole body and soul. From our very first meeting we became kindred spirits. When she told me about her little cabana on her property, Bill and I just jumped at the chance of living in such a beautiful property with such a beautiful person. How could we have then known that, fifteen months later, we would not only be married in the garden area beside the house, but spend our wedding night--the hottest day in years-- by sleeping on the grass with Betty and her beloved dog, Molly. That is just one of so many happy, funny, heartwarming experiences we had with your mom during out stay on the property. She was an example par excellence' of how an avidly interested, socially conscious, lover-of-life adult can live fully in a world where so many compromise their passion and ideals in the face of massive conformity, and her courage and vitality have greatly influenced the way in which we approach our lives in the years since. The enclosed picture is with Betty on our 20th wedding anniversity in the exact spot where we took our wedding vows. Betty will be in our hearts and memories forever. Bill & Barbara Larsen
